Backrooms drawing: draw the endless yellow halls

A Backrooms drawing is mostly one trick: one-point perspective. Wallpaper, carpet and buzzing ceiling lights all run toward a single vanishing point, and the hallway never ends. Learn it with the six steps below, then upload your drawing and SpeedPainter turns it into a video of the halls being drawn line by line.

How to draw the Backrooms in one-point perspective

You need a ruler, a pencil and about fifteen minutes.

  1. 01

Set the horizon and vanishing point

Draw a light horizontal line a little below the middle of the page and mark one dot on it. Every depth line will run to this dot.

  2. 02

    Draw the end wall

Draw a small rectangle around the dot. This is the far end of the corridor and controls how deep it feels: smaller means longer.

  3. 03

    Connect the corners

From each corner of the page, rule a line to the matching corner of the small rectangle. You now have walls, floor and ceiling.

  4. 04

    Add doorways

On each wall, draw tall vertical lines for door edges, then join their tops toward the vanishing point. Doors further away get thinner.

  5. 05

    Ceiling lights and carpet

Draw flat rectangles on the ceiling that shrink toward the dot. A few dashes on the floor give the carpet texture.

  6. 06

    Wallpaper and color

Add thin vertical stripes or a simple repeating pattern on the walls, then color everything in muted yellow and beige.

Original liminal hallways made for this page, not frames from the film. The last one is line-only on the Black board canvas, so it ends as white chalk lines.

Backrooms drawing: common questions

What are the Backrooms?

An internet legend about endless, empty office rooms with yellow wallpaper, damp carpet and humming fluorescent lights, which grew into a web series by Kane Parsons and the 2026 A24 film Backrooms.

How do I draw the Backrooms?

Use one-point perspective: a vanishing point, a small end wall, lines from the corners to it, then doorways, ceiling lights and wallpaper. The six steps above cover it.

What colors make Backrooms art look right?

Muted mustard yellow for the walls, a greyish beige for the carpet and pale white for the lights. Keep everything slightly dull, as if under old fluorescent tubes.

Are the pictures from the movie?

No. They are original hallway illustrations made for this page. We don’t use frames, posters or logos from the film.

Can I make a chalkboard version?

Yes. Set color to 0 and choose the Black board canvas: the lines draw in white like chalk, as in the third example.
